Today and Tomorrow!

Alastair will be reading with us at Storytime!

TODAY, Sept. 26th at 10:30am – Corinth Square
TOMORROW, Sept. 27th at 10:30am – Park Place

Alastair HeimFinishing up our special Storytime Goes Local series this week is Alastair Heim.

Alastair Heim, a Missouri resident just across the state line, is the author of three delightful picture books No Tooting at Tea, The Great Puppy Invasion (Arriving October!) and Love You Too.

Alastair is also the dad of three delightful children who are often the inspiration for his book ideas.

No Tooting At Tea bookTake No Tooting at Tea – Alastair was attending an imaginary tea party hosted by his children. All were proper and demonstrating appropriate tea party etiquette until somebody TOOTED! The tea party hostess exclaimed “There is NO TOOTING AT TEA!” and a story idea was born!

Kids and grownups love this silly, cleverly written classic with its humor and delightful language inspired by a tea party gone wrong. The back of the book includes a page of fun tea party ideas too.

Get to know Alastair: If Alastair had to pick his favorite sound it would be laughter! If he had to pick a favorite color it would be purple. If he had to pick a favorite food – anything cooked by somebody else!

Alastair is passionate about children’s books. When he’s writing a book, he imagines the parent/child experience the book will bring. That’s because his love of children’s books grew as he enjoyed books with his own kids.

We’ll keep you posted about Alastair Heim – he’s got two more books out in 2018 including No Peeking at Presents, a prequel to No Tooting at Tea!

Jody Jensen Shaffer Visits Storytime
Today and Tomorrow!

Jody will be reading with us at Storytime!

TODAY, Sept. 19th at 10:30am – Corinth Square
TOMORROW, Sept. 20th at 10:30am – Park Place

Jody Jensen Shaffer, authorJody Jensen Shaffer, of near-by Liberty, Missouri, is an award-winning poet and the author of more than 30 books of fiction and nonfiction for children, including her debut picture book Prudence the Part-Time Cow, chosen by the Missouri Center for the Book to represent the state at the National Book Festival in Washington D.C. this month!

Prudence the Part-Time Cow is the tale of Prudence, who may look like a full-time cow as she wanders pastures, swats at flies and lines up for supper. But Prudence is a part-time cow—she is also a scientist, an architect, and an inventor, studying and building and dreaming and creating. Just how does she find her place in the herd while being true to her passion? Funny and sweet, this is a story for anyone who’s ever felt a bit different.Prudence The Part-Time Cow

Get to know Jody: If Jody had to pick her favorite food it would be peanut butter! If Jody had to pick a favorite animal it would be dogs! If she had to pick what to wear she’d prefer a hoodie over a sweater, tennis shoes over heels.

Jody lives with her husband and kids in Liberty, Missouri.

Bridget Heos Visits Storytime
Today and Tomorrow!

Local KC author, Bridget HeosBridget Heos is the author of over 70 non-fiction books including a 5th Grade Workman Workbook, a book about Jupiter, and a book about spiders! She has also written some wonderfully fun and silly picture books including Mustache Baby, and Mustache Baby Meets His Match.

In Mustache Baby, Baby Billy, born with a mustache, starts out nobly saving the day in imaginary-play sessions as a cowboy or cop, his mustache looking good-guy great. But as time passes, little Billy’s mustache starts to curl up at the ends in a suspiciously villainous fashion and, sure enough, “Billy’s disreputable mustache led him into a life of dreadful crime.” Plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor and cartoonish illustrations make this a family read-aloud-favorite!

Mustache BabyGet to know Bridget: If Bridget worked in a circus she would want to be a trapeze artist! If she could bring one character to life from a favorite book it would be Cinderella, because – wishes!

If she had to pick her least favorite word it would be “unfortunately.” It’s in almost every rejection letter!

Bridget lives in Kansas City with her husband and four kids. She likes to think about life as a story “If you are going through something hard, you are in the middle of your story. You must go through lots of interesting plot elements to reach your happy ending. And that’s when a new story begins.”
