July 25, 2017 Newsletter – Meet Author and Illustrator, Daniel Miyares

The Learning Tree toy stores 913-385-1234

Author Daniel Miyares with his book, That Neighbor Kid

Celebrate That Neighbor Kid from Daniel Miyares

This Saturday July 29, 10:30AM at Corinth Square

We’ll be celebrating Daniel Miyares and That Neighbor Kid this Saturday, July 29th at 10:30AM at Corinth Square!

Join us for a book signing, story reading and kid-friendly activities. Books are available at this event, or reserve your copy today by calling 913-385-1234.

If you’re at Corinth Square Wednesday morning, you might see Daniel in our store window! Daniel plans to create a display that makes his new book, That Neighbor Kid, come alive, in preparation for Saturday’s book event!

From a series of beautiful paintings that started as a series of Instagram posts, our favorite, local author/illustrator created this beautiful, picture book with a universal story of building friendships and the creation of a special place for children’s play.

Listen to Daniel’s interview about That Neighbor Kid on All the Wonders/A Children’s Book Podcast
http://www.allthewonders.com/podcasts/daniel-miyares-all-the-wonders-episode-369/

“…The illustrations tell the story in this subtle, heartwarming, nearly wordless picture book. The tale opens with a moving van parked in front of a house, and readers see a boy sitting beneath a huge tree in his new yard, engrossed in a book called Living in Trees. His neighbor, a girl, timidly watches him, first through a window, then peering over the fence that separates their two yards. When the boy dismantles a piece of the fence and uses the wood to begin building a tree house, the girl takes advantage of the opening (both literal and figurative) to climb up after him and help.…Miyares’s pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations rely primarily on a soft gray palette that quietly focuses the eye on the characters and their actions and expressions. As construction of the tree house progresses, the tree’s foliage and surroundings take on color, including a brilliant yellow sky that complements the children’s joy at completing their project together. From the beautifully constructed spreads to the perfect pacing and satisfying conclusion, this simple story of new friendship and joint accomplishment is a pleasure. VERDICT Highly recommended for all picture book collections.”

–Teri Markson, Los Angeles Public Library

You Rock!

Oh how fun to paint rocks...

Thanks to all the rock painters who joined us last Friday morning to try out Creativity for Kid’s newest kit, Hide & Seek Rock Painting!

Get your hands on a kit and join an international craze. Gather family and friends together for rock painting to get creative and to spread kindness, encouragement, and happiness throughout our local community – one rock at a time.

How does it work? Hide & Seek Rock Painting is as easy as 1-2-3! You paint your rocks using the weather-proof paints and cool decals in the kit. Then, hide your rocks at the park, in your neighborhood, or any other fun spot. Hiders and seekers can share their rocks (using the social media tracking stickers you add on the bottom of the rocks!)

You know that feeling you get when you find a shiny penny or a four-leaf clover? Hide and Seek Rocks bring the same special lucky, kick-up-your-heals happy feeling when someone finds one!

Did you join us? Check out these photos from our event! Have you found a rock? Let us know #learningtreeks or #learningtreetoys!

Hide and Seek Rock Painting

Friday July 21st, 10:30am – 12:00pm

Corinth Square Learning Tree

Here’s your chance to join in on an international craze and get your hands on a NEW kit from Creativity for Kids during a fun FREE Friday morning activity!

You know that feeling you get when you find a shiny penny or a four-leaf clover? Hide and Seek Rocks bring the same special, lucky, “kick-up-your-heels happy” feeling when someone finds one!

Hide & Seek Rock Painting is a fun way for you, your friends and family to get creative and spread kindness, encouragement and happiness throughout our local community – one rock at a time.

Bring your friends and family and we’ll have everything set up ready to go! It’s easy as 1-2-3!

  1. PAINT – Choose a rock and decorate it with bright, colorful, weather resistant paints and fun decals!
  2. SHOW US YOUR ROCKS – Part of the fun of Hide and Seek Rock Painting is sharing it with others. Place the clear tracking stickers on the bottom of your rock. That way you and the “finder” can post pictures on our social media sites.
  3. HIDE YOUR ROCKS – Place your rock where people will find it. And remember, while you are out hiding rocks, make sure to keep your eyes open. You just might find a few rocks of your own!
