We love Halloween! It’s a kid’s dream – dressing up, pretending, bending the healthy food rules, getting just a little spooky, and staying up late. The Learning Tree is here to add to the spook-tacular fun with a FaceBook Costume Contest, special storytimes, trick-or-treating and even a Haunted Toy Store! There are still spots available for silhouette appointments with Clay Rice!

It’s becoming a Learning Tree tradition to welcome internationally acclaimed, multi-award winning, silhouette artist and children’s author, Clay Rice to our stores each year.

With a few precise snips of his scissors Clay will create his one-of-a-kind works of art featuring your child. A silhouette is a unique keepsake with all the elegance, grace, and romance of a by-gone era. A framed silhouette is a beautiful holiday gift for aunts and uncles, grandparents or anyone special on your list.

A silhouette sitting is $42 for two copies of the same child. Separate appointments must be made for each individual child.

Haunted Toy Store

Saturday Oct. 28th, 5:00 – 7:00pm, Park Place:

Come visit the Learning Tree Haunted Toy Store! Our Park Place store will be transformed into a friendly Halloween adventure complete with squishy eyeballs and Tricks and Treats. The perfect Halloween outing for little ones looking for a one-stop adventure.

Miss Elaine's Halloween Party

Miss Elaine’s Annual Halloween Party! Regular storytime friends, goblins, ghosts and fairies you’re invited to start this special day with Halloween stories, crafts and cookie fun! Wear your costume if you want.

Corinth Square Trick or Treat

Tuesday Oct. 31st, 4:00 – 6:00pm, Corinth Square:

Trick-or-Treat! Make the loop around the Corinth Square Shopping Center, stopping in at your favorite shops to fill up your goodie bag! It’s a nice early activity for wee Treaters or a great place to start for those Tricksters who will be playing long into the night!

Okay, okay we just told you how we’re gonna help you fill that trick-or-treat bag now we’re gonna buy it back? Yup, that’s right! What to do with all that C-A-N-D-Y after you’ve had your fill? Trade it in at either Learning Tree location for $5 Learning Tree Bucks to spend in the store. We’ll see that the candy stays off your waistline, out of your kid’s teeth and goes to a good cause!

The Learning Tree has registered with Treats for Troops and has agreed to transport donated candy. We collected nearly 1,000 lbs last year!

We suggest that schools, scout troops and other organizations contact Treats for Troops directly to donate their large collections.


Here’s How You Can Help:

  • We are accepting candy from our customers and their families.

  • Candy must be individually wrapped.

  • Please bring candy in gallon Ziplock bags or doubled plastic grocery sacks. Bags can be carried in larger boxes.

  • One $5 Learning Tree Bucks per family/household, please.

We love being your mom and pop neighborhood toy store whether you’re around the corner or you make a special trip to see us! Both our Corinth Square and Park Place stores will be joining specialty toy sellers in towns and cities all over the country celebrating our commitment to providing you with our expert knowledge of toys and the healthy benefits they deliver to children of all ages. Mark your calendar for this special day of games, give-aways, raffles and surprises. Come play with us on this special day!

Clay Rice, Silhouette Artist is coming to The Learning Tree in November!We are pleased to announce The Learning Tree will welcome internationally acclaimed, multi-award winning, silhouette artist and children’s author, Clay Rice for two days in November.

Friday, Nov. 6th at Park Place

Saturday, Nov. 7th at Corinth Square

Clay will share his award winning books in a special, musical Storytime, and be available for silhouette portrait appointments on both days.

With a few snips of Clay’s magic scissors, a silhouette becomes a timeless memory. Framed, a silhouette of your child becomes a treasured gift.

Clay is a charming, gifted artist. We met Clay on our summer visit to South Carolina for the Astra Toy Market and have carried his books in the stores for years. He creates keepsake silhouettes, writes beautiful children’s books, tells stories, sings and plays guitar- talk about talent! We were so pleased when he found an open date for a trip to Kansas City to share his artistry.

Clay estimates that in his nearly 33 year career, he has cut almost one million silhouettes!

In fact, he is currently on his  “One Millionth Silhouette Tour”  anticipating cutting that millionth any day, with lots of fanfare and prizes going to the lucky subject!  This rare artform is a Rice family tradition spanning three generations and two artists.

The Stick by Clay RiceClay is the recipient of the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award and the IPPY Award for Children’s Book of the Year.
